Found in Sweden.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eThe tapered body is held by a wide band of tightly wrapped split-branch hoops at the middle and a second band at the base. The hinged lid opens on a wooden pin and has a carved thumb piece, and the S-shaped handle ends in a carved spur at the bottom. The unpainted wood has a soft, even patina, and the handle is worn smooth from years of handling. The interior has a dark, aged patina from use.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eTankards like this were used for serving beer and other drinks on farms across Scandinavia, and the split-branch banding is a hallmark of rural woodworking traditions.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003eCondition: good, honest vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. There are small gaps between some staves, a crack in one stave at the base of the interior and an old crack in the lid hinge block. The tankard is not watertight and is sold for decorative use only.
