Woven and Embroidered Textile Wall Art
This is our largest textile collection, focused on folk art pieces made to hang on the wall. The core is Swedish: rölakan and flamskväv tapestries woven in wool, tvistsöm and stramalj needlepoint in solid teak frames, hand embroidered wall hangings with birds, tulips and village scenes, and 1970s printed linen panels by Ulla Scheuer for ULLAS.
Neighboring traditions are here as well. Look for a Finnish raanu wall hanging, geometric kilim table runners, a Tunisian Gafsa pictorial tapestry and an antique cross stitch banner with historical costumes. Each listing names the technique and country where we know them, so you can tell a Swedish needlepoint from a North African weave at a glance.
Most pieces date from the 1950s to the 1970s, with a few older examples. Expect honest signs of age such as faded threads or small repairs, all photographed and noted. A framed tapestry or hand embroidered panel adds color and texture to a cabin, cottage or modern living room in a way a print cannot.
