An antique Swedish bread board, hand carved from a single piece of wood and painted in traditional Falu red, estimated to be around 200 years old.
The front is decorated with hand-painted flowers in raised golden ochre paint, with dark leaves and stems rising from the handle in a symmetrical bouquet. The back is plain Falu red. The handle has a hanging hole, so the board can be displayed on the wall as well as on a shelf or kitchen counter.
Boards like this were everyday tools in Swedish farmhouse kitchens, and today they are collected as decorative pieces of Scandinavian folk art.
Measurements: length 50 cm (19.7 in), width 29 cm (11.4 in), thickness approx. 1 cm (0.4 in).
Condition: antique condition with wear consistent with age and use. Small holes and surface marks, a few cracks on the board and handle, and wear around the hanging hole. Please see all photos for details.
