A large handmade ceramic figurine of a girl by Elbogen Keramik, Malmö, Sweden. She wears a long pale blue matte-glazed dress with incised pleat lines, and her unglazed brown clay face and arms give the piece its typical calm, faceless Elbogen character. Her hands are gently clasped around a small white and blue bird, and her hair is gathered in a bun with a long braid falling down her back.
Elbogen Keramik worked in Malmö from 1955 to 1982 and is known for its charming hand-built figurines. The workshop also trained many young ceramicists, and pieces were often signed with their initials.
A lovely Scandinavian accent for a shelf, a windowsill or a collection of Swedish pottery.
