This exceptional stoneware table lamp was designed by Gertrud Lönegren for Rörstrand, one of the most important names in early Swedish studio ceramics. Dating from the 1930s, it features a beautifully sculptural pear-shaped body covered with raised leaf decoration and a wonderfully expressive blue-grey, cream and earthy glaze.
The deeply modeled leaves and softly flowing glaze give the lamp an almost organic, botanical quality. Every angle reveals subtle variations in color and surface, making it as much a piece of collectible Swedish ceramic art as a functional lamp.
The base is marked L 120.
Condition:
The ceramic body shows age-related crazing to the glaze. There is a previously chipped/broken area around the upper neck at the lamp fitting which has been glued/repaired, as clearly shown in the photographs. The repair is situated directly beneath the lamp holder and is therefore not particularly noticeable when the lamp is standing normally, but it is present and should be taken into consideration when purchasing. Please examine the detailed photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition description.
The electrical components have been completely renewed.
Despite the restoration, this remains a particularly striking and uncommon example of Gertrud Lönegren's work, with superb sculptural presence and a highly decorative leaf-relief surface.
