A stoneware table lamp base designed by Gunnar Nylund for Rörstrand, Sweden, circa 1950s. The cylindrical form is covered entirely in fine horizontal ribbing, with a two-tone glaze graduating from warm amber-ochre on the upper body to a deep chocolate brown at the base — a palette that reads as both earthy and refined.

The ribbed surface catches light with quiet intensity, the glaze pooling slightly in the grooves to create depth and variation. The transition between the two tones is gradual and organic, characteristic of Nylund’s mastery of reduction-fired stoneware at Rörstrand.

Marked on the base with the impressed Rörstrand crown mark, the incised designer monogram GN, model number 9 N, and Sweden. A partial original paper label remains on the lower body. Gunnar Nylund (1904–1997) was one of Scandinavia’s most celebrated ceramic designers, serving as artistic director at Rörstrand from 1931 to 1958. His work is held in the collections of the Nationalmuseum Stockholm, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and numerous Nordic institutions.

Works beautifully on a bedside table, console, or reading desk — pair with a wide linen shade in natural white or warm cream to complement the amber glaze.
