Olle Alberius for Rörstrand – Large “Sarek” Vase, Sweden, 1960s–70s

A tall vintage Swedish ceramic vase from the “Sarek” series, designed by Olle Alberius for Rörstrand. The cylindrical body is hand painted in rich layered shades of brown and burgundy. It is decorated with impressed circles, spirals and dotted lines that give it a modernist, almost archaeological look. The interior, rim and base are glazed in clean white.

Sarek is named after the wild national park in Swedish Lapland. It is one of Rörstrand’s best-known hand-painted art series of the 1960s and 70s. This is the large size, which is the most striking piece in the series.

The base is marked with the Rörstrand three crowns, “Sweden”, “Sarek”, “Handmålad” (hand painted) and the painter’s mark.
