Scandinavian Troll Art – Hand-Painted Swedish Wooden Magazine Holder, Signed L.Ö, 1995

Original hand-painted Scandinavian troll art makes this Swedish wooden magazine holder a distinctive folk art piece. Four storybook scenes are painted directly onto woven wood splint panels rather than printed. A deep-blue wooden frame and arched carrying handle surround the artwork, combining decorative character with practical storage.

Signed and dated “L.Ö-95,” the holder is described as a handmade piece from 1995. Its woodland imagery brings Swedish folklore into a reading corner, hallway or cottage-style interior. The artist’s full identity is not established in the available product information.

Original hand-painted troll scenes

The four vignettes depict an elderly troll and a young troll sawing a giant mushroom, grandmothers gathering wild mushrooms and berries, a mother and child picking flowers beneath clouds, and a troll family resting beneath white birch branches. Forest blues, greens and warm earth tones tie the scenes together. The woven wooden surface gives the hand-painted decoration texture.

Dimensions and materials

The holder measures approximately 16.1 inches wide × 18.1 inches high × 7.9 inches deep (41 × 46 × 20 cm). It has woven wood splint panels, a wooden frame painted deep blue and an arched carrying handle. The wood species is not specified.

Signature and vintage condition

The front bears the signature and date “L.Ö-95.” The existing product information describes vivid paint and minor age-related wear. Please review all photographs carefully to assess the painted panels, woven wood, frame and handle.

Display and storage

Display this Swedish folk art piece beside an armchair or in a woodland-inspired room, using it to organize magazines or light household items. A load capacity is not specified, so avoid overloading the woven panels or carrying heavy contents by the handle.

Care

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. If necessary, wipe unpainted areas carefully with a slightly damp cloth without saturating the wood. Avoid abrasive cleaners, moisture and prolonged direct sunlight to protect the painted decoration.
