Swedish Segmented Pine Pendant Light, 1970s Scandinavian End Grain Hanging Lamp with Scalloped Shade.

A sculptural Swedish pendant light from the 1970s, made of solid pine. The shade is built from dozens of small pine segments, cut and joined so that the end grain and growth rings turn in a different direction on every piece. The result is a mosaic of curved grain patterns covering the shade both inside and out, a fine example of Swedish woodworking craft.

The silhouette rises from a softly scalloped lower edge into a full, rounded body and finishes in a hand-turned pine top. Seen from below, the interior opens like a flower, with the segments radiating from the socket toward the petal-shaped rim. When lit, the light falls downward while the wood glows around it.

A statement piece over a dining table, a kitchen island or in a living room, and a sculpture in its own right even when the light is off.
