A quietly captivating piece of mid-century Swedish needlework, this large square needlepoint depicts a sun-drenched cottage window scene with remarkable compositional sophistication. In the foreground, a generous bouquet of blue harebells and lilac flowers spills from a golden yellow vase on a wooden windowsill. Through the open window, a pastoral Swedish landscape unfolds — white farmhouses with green roofs, a wooden fence, and open fields bathed in soft morning light. White curtains rendered in delicate long stitch frame the scene on either side, adding a sense of depth and domestic warmth.
The piece is worked in fine needlepoint on a natural linen canvas and mounted on a solid wooden stretcher frame — ready to hang. The square format and restrained, almost painterly palette give it the quality of a framed watercolour rather than a textile, making it equally at home in a Scandinavian modern or traditional interior.
Technique: needlepoint with long stitch curtain detail, wool on linen canvas. Colours: natural linen, blue, lilac, purple, yellow, green, brown, white. Mount: solid wooden stretcher frame. Dimensions: 50 x 50 cm (19.7 x 19.7 in). Origin: Sweden, mid-20th century. Condition: excellent vintage condition.
A one-of-a-kind piece — only one available.
