A vintage Swedish root wood bowl, hand carved from a single piece of birch root or burl, most likely mid-20th century.
The long, boat-shaped bowl follows the natural form of the root and rests on its own sculptural root base, so no two are ever alike. The outside has a glossy lacquered finish that brings out the swirling, honey-toned grain. Inside, darker root knots and natural bark inclusions create a striking pattern across the bowl.
Root wood carving, rotslöjd, is a traditional Swedish craft, where the maker lets the shape of the root decide the form of the finished piece.
A beautiful organic centerpiece for a dining table, sideboard or shelf. Best suited for decorative use or dry items such as pine cones, keys or seasonal decor.
Measurements: length 41 cm (16.1 in), width 11 cm (4.3 in), height 11 cm (4.3 in).
Condition: excellent vintage condition, with no cracks or damage. The darker knots and bark inclusions are a natural part of the root wood. Please see all photos for details.
