Collection: Scandinavian Primitives – Antique Swedish Wood & Farmhouse Decor

Primitive Decor from Rural Sweden

These are the everyday objects of old Swedish farmhouses: wooden tankards, butter paddles, staved containers, flasks, bowls carved from birch burl and root wood, and farmhouse pots in copper and bronze. They were made by hand for daily use, and they carry the marks of it: tool marks, worn paint, old repairs and a deep patina.

Many pieces are dated, from a painted container of 1783 to carved butter paddles of 1806 and 1859 and a chip carved tankard of 1875. Each one is personally sourced in Sweden and described honestly, with its age, wood and condition.
